99-Year-Old Lady Sews A Dress A Day For Children In Need

Lillian Weber, a 99-year-old good Samaritan from Iowa, has spent the last few years sewing a dress a day for the Little Dresses For Africa charity, a Christian organization that distributes dresses to children in need in Africa and elsewhere.

Weber’s goal is to make 1,000 dresses by the time she turns 100 on May 6th. So far, she’s made more than 840. Though she says she could make two a day, she only makes one – but each single dress she makes per day is personalized with careful stitchwork. She hopes that each little girl who receives her dress can take pride in her new garment.

Work rant.

Today has just been hectic. Full of running around, dealing with district nurses, writing up notes, dealing with medication, helping residents, shit (literally) and cleaning (said shit and other things) and just all round non stop madness. I missed both my breaks, hadn’t eaten anything since 11am, and barely had chance to have a drink or even go to the loo. My back is in bits. I probably stink of various odours. And I’m just all round worn out.

But even after all this, I still enjoy my job. Because knowing that the people I care for are safe, warm, well fed and generally well looked after, makes it worth it. Without me and the other staff, some of these people wouldn’t be able to cope with certain day to day tasks. They aren’t alone and they are safe.

That. That is what makes it all worth it. To see a smile on their faces, knowing that what I do makes a difference.
